Think of mixed metal bracelets as a fusion of two of the world’s most precious metals, silver and gold. When combined, the warm hues of gold paired with the cooler tones of silver create the perfect harmony that can be worn easily with almost everything. The process of combining two different metals requires great skill, and Phillip Gavriel has worked for years to perfect this process.
Precious Metals, Particular Characteristics
The pairing of silver and gold in one piece may sound simple, but it is actually quite complicated. Gold and silver, while both considered precious metals, have very different characteristics, which makes them distinct to work with. Gold is generally stronger than silver and has a different melting point. This makes combining the two in one piece something that only skilled artisans can execute. It also makes the piece even more labor-intensive and requires more skill, making each piece truly handcrafted.
Our mixed metal pieces are crafted from the finest sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver, and 18-karat gold, which is 75% pure gold. You may be asking yourself — what is in the silver or gold to make up for the 7.5% or 25% respectively? That is what we call an alloy. An alloy is a composition of various metals that are combined to make the piece more durable, give it longevity, and make it easier to craft into the beautiful pieces you see. Phillip Gavriel collaborates responsibly with small artisans, primarily in Italy, to craft our mixed metal pieces.
What Is the Process From Sketching to Making Finished Pieces?
First, we start with conceptualizing a design. Our designer, Phillip, starts by hand sketching an initial concept or inspiration. We then refine the pieces by collaborating with master jewelry artisans who help bring our vision to life, sometimes digitally, through prototypes.
Each design comes to life through the hands of skilled craftspeople, who translate Phillip’s vision into tangible form. Many of them, in Italy and throughout the world, work hands-on with Phillip and our team, verifying that the final piece meets the standards of excellence. Once the final piece is approved, we begin creating pieces for individual clients to enjoy.
Types of Mixed Metal Bracelets
Our mixed metals jewelry harmoniously blends gold and silver, offering versatility that allows it to be worn with a variety of ensembles. Our bracelets feature styles with textures and designs from various collections. This includes the Italian cable and Prosecco collections.
Our Italian cable collection includes the chain link and paperclip styles. Chain link bracelets have a series of interlocking components that sometimes include round and oval links. Paperclip bracelets utilize rectangular links. Our Silver & 18K Gold Cable Doppia Link bracelet includes a blend of polished gold links and twisted silver links. Our Prosecco bracelets offer a playful, textured appearance with a beaded look. Some mixed metal bracelets from this collection, such as the Silver & 18K Gold Prosecco Station Bracelet, utilize gold accents in the three-station style or bar designs for a simpler, sophisticated appearance.
Bangle and cuff styles use an open design instead of a clasp. This allows for easy wearing and removal. Smaller cuffs and bangles can be stacked together to create a more casual, playful look, while larger mixed-metal cuffs can serve as a statement piece, standing alone as a focal point in your outfit.
