It may seem like a daunting task to pick the right length when it comes to necklaces and chains, so here are a few tips Phillip Gavriel suggests to help make this a little easier.
Necklace Sizes
If you haven't ever paid attention to what your necklace size is, start with a chart. This will help you visualize the differences on average.
The next best way to figure out your ideal length is to simply wrap a string around your neck as you would want your necklace to lay, and then measure it.
The most common length today for women is 18". But this can vary up and down slightly depending on your own body. If you are buying a gift, on average 18" is the best option to consider for women. For men, you will consider 20" and 22".
Phillip Gavriel offers necklaces in most average lengths, with a few pieces in longer lengths depending on the style. Look for pieces that have an adjustable feature if you want more versatility or if you aren't sure the person's neck size. We can help navigate you here if needed. And yes, we do offer custom lengths if you contact us.
Chain Type and Style
The specific style can impact the length you need. Chunky or bolder chain links may wear smaller than thinner chains, so look for the fit scale on the site to help you navigate it.
Occasion
Picking a chain is a personal choice determined by the style and statement you are looking for as well as the function of the chain.
If you want a bolder look, you may want to opt for a single larger link. Or if you want to layer your necklaces, two or three thinner chains may work better. If you are adding a pendant, keep in mind the bail, which will let you attach the pendant to the chain, and make sure it's large enough to accommodate the chain you like.
If you want to wear a turtleneck or something with a high collar, you may want to opt for something in a longer length.
